The 2008 Locally Grown Recipe Contest Information

More than 70 people entered their recipe using locally grown ingredients in our contest. We got some amazing recipes but we had to narrow it down. Here are our four finalists:

1. Suzie Fromer of Tarrytown: Moroccan Beet and Kale Salad.
Suzie is a young mother with a newborn. She shops at Stone Barns.

2. Bob Madigan of Purdys: Pasta for Teresa with Sun Dried Garden Tomatoes, Arugula and Shrimp.
Bob has two teenage boys. He dries his own tomatoes in the oven and packs them in olive oil to extend the growing season.

3. Vivian Utko of Armonk: Stuffed Swiss Chard al Italiano.
Vivian is a retired master gardener who grows 500 bulbs of garlic on her property.

4. Jeanne Geraci of Mount Vernon: Cucumber/Tomato Duet.
Jeanne is an avid home cook who just installed a potager this year. She's using foam.

Finalists participated in a "Top Chef"-style cook-off at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, which will air on LoHud.com and RNN-TV. The winner was announced at the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture's Harvest Fest on Oct. 4.

The Grand Prize Winner receives a $300 gift certificate for dinner at Blue Hill at Stone Barns and a $300 gift certificate to MyPersonalFarmers.com. There are several other great prizes too!
